Sunday Bloody Sunday: Mundo – A Latin Chic experience

Mundo Brunch Bloody Mary

Nothing says “Brunch” like Bottomless Bloody Marys and that’s just what they are serving up in Mundo, a beautifully appointed restaurant which bills itself as Latin chic, tucked away in the World Market Center in Las Vegas.
We, here at B-t-B, are notorious at sniffing out where the bars are, *cue 1960′s beach party music* so the first time we went to Mundo was the day after Winter Market. The menu was limited but the wait staff, despite feeding 30,000 hungry designers & buyers, was fast and service was impeccable.
So what better place to take this mom for Mother’s Day: From the moment we sat down, my bottomless drink stayed filled as if it was some magical cup. I had the chicken satay, flavored Latin style and the Benedict Mexicano, a rich offering of jalepeno cornbread, poached egg slathered in pork carnitas simmered in a green chile hollandaise.

Benedict Mexicano

Of course no meal is complete without dessert with cafe con leche and a shot of tequila. We indulged in all. And just not to let down my family, I also raised a glass of Sangria to the matriarch of my son’s mestizo side of the family. Cheers to Chela.
Even if it isn’t market week and you are in town for a propane convention, it is well worth the 10$ cab ride from mid strip to the WMC just for Munco. However go to Open Table and make a reservation 1st as they are always busy even when it isn’t serving the HGTV crew.
If you have some time to spend, directly across from the WMC is the Smith Center for Performing Arts, the newest inclusion into revamping the downtown area of Las Vegas. On the corner is the Lou Ruvo Brain Institute which is housed in a Frank Gehry design building. It might be noted that it gives my brain a work out just looking at it. If you come during the day, you can browse the showrooms at WMC or if you are looking for shopping, it is right next to the North strip version of the Premium outlets. All within walking distance. Don’t forget your water.

Sunday Bloody Sunday: At the Cosmopolitan Hotel Las Vegas

Drinking Bloody’s a the Cosmo hotel in Las Vegas.

Crazy to think that at a buffet in Las Vegas you could find a hand crafted cocktail such as the Mombo Italiano and yes I do know this is supposed to be about “Bloody Mary” but in reality the Mombo is a Bloody Mary with a twist. The bar at the Wicked Spoon *great name for a buffet btw* has made vodka infused with roasted garlic then mixed it with a balsamic reduction and basil, added mixed with tomato juice and just the right touch of cucumber to make it the tastiest Bloody Mary on the strip, in my EXPERT opinion. Of course #Cosmopolitan_LV needs to incorporate this into their other bars like the Vesper in the lobby.

Vegas: International Cash Mob Day

UPDATE 251pm: We had about 30 people come for the event. An awesome turnout. Great location and it turns out they were having an event there tonight so we were able to get in on the music, adult beverages & bbq.

Today has been officially designated International Cash Mob day. We, at TeamVegas, are proud to participate in this awesome event. It’s one thing to say you are going to create jobs but it is another when people band together to shop their local business in order to infuse money from the surrounding community into the local economy. Small business is what is currently driving our economic recovery. Sure big companies like GM and GE are hiring but so are the food trucks that feed the plant workers, the local dry cleaners that supply clean uniforms.
Currently there are over 160 cities globally participating in this event. Cash Mobs can help you either start one in your own community or point you to an existing one. #shoplocal. #supportsmallbusiness

EDDIE D’s Sandwich Shop

We went to Eddie D’s with some anticipation after opening the door and seeing the prep station was open to view and the nice welcome we got from the cashier.
Even though we were getting take out, she invited us to sit and brought us over a sample of their meat balls.

We ordered our pie to go and I tackled the meat ball. the sauce was delicious. while the meat ball itself was a bit dry, the sauce was 10x better so who noticed once you combine them.

Service was quick despite it being lunch hour and it seemed to be quite a few regulars since the counter staff called them by name.

Sadly when we got home with our pie, it was uber disappointing. the dough was cardboardish, the sauce was just a swipe and the extra cheese we’d ordered was none existent.

Since our dentist & new favorite bakery is there as well, we will go back and try the sandwiches. From the reviews here, it looks like their sandwiches fare better then that pizza. Of course there is the Vegas water factor in the dough.

Retro Bakery: March’s Flavor of the Month: PISTACHIO!

I haven’t tried this one yet, but one of our staffers rolled by there yesterday and snatched one up along with his favorite, HopScotch!! He reported back that Pistachio may replace HopScotch on his must have list for a swing by Retro.

*hands on wide hips*..Now I know the Electric West, AMD & IWCE vendors can use the “luck o’ the Irish” on St. Paddy’s and what better way than to throw a booth party with a sweet little treat from Retro Bakery.

They Deliver!!
