May 7-10, 2012. AISTech is the Iron and Steel Technology Conference and Exposition.  The show featured international technologies from the world over. Anyone involved in the steel industry needed to be at this event, whether to present, attend or exhibit, to discover ways to make the job easier and improve productivity. From foreman to president and from engineer to operator, they came to find out what’s new in technology, methods and equipment. Each year more than 40 countries participate in AISTech.  The most popular reasons for attending were given as “New Process or Product Technology” and “Latest Research and Development.”  One out of every two AISTech attendees has buying influence for the industry’s products and services.  Delegates “steeled” themselves for the long hike round the booths, and “ironed” out any wrinkles in their knowledge…

Atlanta: PRC 2012

PRC ExhibitsMar. 20-22, 2012. PRC stands for Plastics Recycling Conference, and its show and expo aimed to set a platform for industry bodies like the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, AMERIPEN and PAC NEXT to discuss their products and plans, similarities and differences between the groups, and what’s going on in the wide world of plastic packaging recycling. PAC NEXT in particular was striving to proactively help the packaging industry transition to a world without waste. With a focus on innovative packaging end-of-life solutions, and a highly collaborative work model, PAC NEXT showed itself ready to exert a substantial impact in the packaging recycling industry.  Delegates included raw material producers, packaging manufacturers, packaging users and fillers, retailers and material recovery organizations.  Go plastic!PRC Question and Answer Session

Feb. 29 – Mar. 04, 2012. SECO 2012, subtitled The Education Destination, is supposed to be optometry’s most important and compelling annual event. The SECO 2012 program of education, exhibits and events offers optometrists and other ophthalmic professionals the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge needed to remain competitive in today’s challenging optometric field.  New optometrists entering the profession face new opportunities and challenges, particularly when considering the current state of the economy. SECO 2012 education was designed to help graduating ODs prepare for future success. The Student Education Program is produced by SECO International and supported by an educational grant from The Vision Care Institute.

Atlanta: Training Conference and Expo

Feb. 13-14, 2012. Faced with continued financial turmoil, evolving technology, and new recruits for training who were social-networking practically from birth, training professionals have been facing new professional challenges. They now have to do more with less.  The aim is to help mold learners’ careers and futures — emphasizing the “development” in T&D. This Conference offered skill-building sessions on assessment, measurement, design, development, management, and instructor-led learning. Advanced trainers went on a deeper dive with a Virtual Classroom Sync Up; a Build-A-Course Room; a Mobile Learning Experience; and Social Media Ninja Rodeo.  Keynoters spoke about realizing possibility.  So it was all about the art of the possible…

Atlanta: Georgia Boat Show

Jan. 12-15, 2012. Georgia’s premier boat show is celebrating its 50th year as a great place to see and buy boats, boating gear and accessories. If it’s for boating, you’ll find it here! Hundreds of new boats, including powerboats, sport fishers, ski boats and personal watercraft, and booths showcasing the latest in engines, marine gear, electronics and accessories fill the Georgia World Congress Center. The 4-day event is delegates’ once-a-year chance to compare makes and models, secure insurance and financing and gear up with the latest accessories all at one time.  An exciting radio-controlled boat docking game let visitors test their navigational skills, and compete for a chance to win great prizes. Unfortunately due to a pool malfunction, Atlanta’s Indoor Wake Park feature will be shut down for the duration of the show. Don’t go near the water…

Atlanta: The Cobb Show

Jan. 8-9, 2012. The Cobb Show is a trade show produced by the Atlanta Apparel Exhibition Group Inc. The Cobb Galleria Center is one of the premier trade show centers in the Southeast. The facility offers over 144,000 square feet of exhibition space, all on one level. The show is open only to bona fide exhibitors engaged in the wholesale business. Said one participant, who happened to be from Turkey, “Our presence at The Cobb Show sends a strong statement to potential goods buyers which is a key factor in doing the show. We have met new prospects, opened new accounts, continued with existing ones, and gained considerable recognition as a premium brand in the southeast”.  The show sounds like quite a “wearing” experience…
