Beyond The Booth: Yelp’s Rise UP Japan & Vegas StrEats

Rise UP Japan:

Just so you don’t think all we do is work, ok 98.9% of the time we do, here are some pictures of events that we attended today.
First was a bake sale from several catering and bakeries around Las Vegas as a fundraiser sponsored by YELP Las Vegas for the victims of the recent events in Japan. Brio Tuscan Cafe at Towne Square on the south Strip donated the space. What was very cool was that at either end of the vendors, they gave us a tray..you could pick out what you wanted and when you got to the other end, they totaled it all up and we paid one price. Our favorite bakery, Retro, donated the cute Hello Kitty Cupcakes.

Vegas Streats

The 2nd event on the same day is something new called Vegas StrEats. Located in the Fremont street area across from the El Cortez, it’s a once a month event — 2nd Saturday — with several food trucks and various artists, bands and vendors. It starts at 6pm and goes until 12m. We got there at 615pm and several of the trucks already had a 30-50 minute wait. This is the only “issue” I have with the food trucks here. And while I ‘get’ it that they want to be fresh/hot etc., the reason people like food trucks — and it’s not a “new” thing either. NYC has had gourmet food trucks lining the streets around Wall & Broad and then on the weekends at Madison Square Garden and Central Park since the mid 1970′s. Anyway, we were happy to get to try a new truck called Haulin’ Balls which serves up unique meat balls. I had the “Blue Balls” which for this event was a modified Boss Hogg..and could have had 30 more.

Retro Bakery: March’s Flavor of the Month: PISTACHIO!

I haven’t tried this one yet, but one of our staffers rolled by there yesterday and snatched one up along with his favorite, HopScotch!! He reported back that Pistachio may replace HopScotch on his must have list for a swing by Retro.

*hands on wide hips*..Now I know the Electric West, AMD & IWCE vendors can use the “luck o’ the Irish” on St. Paddy’s and what better way than to throw a booth party with a sweet little treat from Retro Bakery.

They Deliver!!

Retro Bakery: February Chocolate Covered Cherry cupcake

Who doesn’t love chocolate covered cherries?? Retro, for Valentine’s Day has taken this to the next level and made it into a cupcake. Decadent and delicious. Chocolate cake with cherry cream inside, topped with cherry buttercream and bits of chocolate.

ATTN: MAGIC, WSA, & Las Vegas Market. Since you are going to be in Vegas anyway..why not WOW entice them into your booth with some of these cupcakes.

You can reach Retro by clicking through to their website.

Retro is the bakery of choice chosen by the staff as their favorite little secret in Sin City.
Did I mention .. They deliver??

Retro Bakery: January’s Flavor: Hot Chocolate!

In an effort to expand “Beyond the Booth”, we are going to bring you from time to time,  faves from the locals and staff.

We all agree that our favorite cupcake place is Retro Bakery, located in the northwestern part of the valley. Not to worry, however, they deliver!!

Each month they have a ‘Flavor of the Month” and this month it’s “Hot Chocolate” because anywhere but here it’s hot chocolate weather. Ok last month we had 8″ of snow.

This YUMMY cupcake is chocolate cake, filled with chocolate ganache and topped with marshmallow buttercream, and topped with mini (and these are really mini) marshmallows. Did I mention it was sprinkled with hot chocolate powder??

Having a suite party?? Want to impress a visiting buyer?? Call up Retro and have them WOW your next Vegas event.

*no money was paid for this, just to spread the cupcake love of Retro*
