March 19-21, 2013. AeroDef Manufacturing Expo is co-located with Composites Manufacturing. It claims to be the leading exposition and technical conference for the aerospace and defense manufacturing industries. Produced by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers  in partnership with industry OEMs, the mission is to foster innovation across a broad span of enterprise to reduce costs, expedite production times and maintain manufacturing competitiveness in the global economy.  Keynote speakers and panelists come from an elevated level of government and business, all there to share their vision of the potential of technology, collaboration and public policy to transform aerospace manufacturing and field concepts that attendees could experience on the exposition floor and at in-depth conference sessions. The event pulled together high-concept, integrated solutions and well-grounded applications.  Grounded?  Who’s grounded?

Long Beach: Space Craft Tech Show

May 8-12, 2012. Spacecraft Technology Expo is the first and only exhibition of its kind, bringing together global decision makers, OEMs, supply chain experts, industry executives, suppliers and customers to identify present and future market growth opportunities for the design, manufacture, pre-launch testing and operations of spacecraft, satellites, and space-related technologies.  The proceedings included a spacecraft technology summit, a three-day technical conference program built around the needs and priorities of key industry technology leaders in spacecraft and satellite design, build, and testing.  The exhibition hall hosted satellite systems, launch vehicle and spacecraft design, engineering and testing, and covered all facets of the manufacturing supply chain.  Speakers came in from NASA, MIT, Intelsat… oh, and there was someone called Aldrin, from the United Launch Alliance.  Deep space, stardate 2212…..

Long Beach: CPRS 2012

Mar. 20-23, 2012. CPRS is the California Park and Recreation Society.  It’s there to provide career development, networking and resources, and is the public advocate for California park and recreation professionals.  CPRS is a nonprofit public interest organization with more than 4,000 members who create opportunities for providing recreational experiences to individuals, families and communities, fostering human development, promoting health and wellness, increasing cultural unity, facilitating community problem solving, and protecting natural resources.  86 percent of park and recreation agencies in California claim at least one CPRS member. In addition, over 175 park and recreation agencies are themselves CPRS members.  Tired of walking round all the booths already?  Park it…

Long Beach: CA Travel Adventures Show

Jan. 13-15, 2012. This was the Los Angeles Travel and Adventure Show, featuring sponsor destinations as exotic and diverse as Turkey, Guam, South Africa, Taiwan and… Los Angeles!  You want girls in grass skirts? Sure, they got girls in grass skirts.  You want movies on sampans, Easter Island statues, palapa-thatched holiday villages surrounded by sparkling turquoise seas? They got sampans, Easter Island statues, AND palapa-thatched holiday villages surrounded by sparkling turquoise seas.  You want to hear speeches by Ethiopian Airlines, Travel Channel and the Costa Rica Tourism Board?  We can fix all that.  Oh, you want your children to attend?  They have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  And we do not suggest you dress them in grass skirts….

Long Beach: Electric West

It’s all about “connecting electric professionals with powerful ideas”. (Say what? Do these guys run on battery power or something?). Electric West is billed as the largest independent trade show serving the electrical design, construction & maintenance industry. Traditionally an event serving professionals from the electrical contracting, servicing and repair segment of the electrical industry, Electric West has expanded its focus to include information of importance to electrical engineers and consultants who oversee the design and development of electrical products, software and services; and plant and facility managers who are responsible for power quality and energy efficiency. The conference program also includes coverage of renewable energy and green business practices. Wait, what was that flash of pink zooming past the podium behind the keynote speaker? Must’ve been the Energizer Bunny…
