Las Vegas: Expo!Expo!

The International Association of Exhibitions and Events is today the leading association for the global exhibition industry. IAEE represents over 9,000 individuals in over 50 countries who conduct and support exhibitions around the world, and IAEE proclaims that “Exhibitions and Events mean business”. Their show goes by Expo! Expo!, and IAEE’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition brought together organizers and industry suppliers for their mutual benefit through exhibition, education and networking events. The focus of Expo! Expo! was, we heard, to create a learning culture and strategic networking opportunities. To that end, the 2015 Expo! Expo! Connect platform leveraged state-of-art networking and matchmaking technology, to get everyone talking. Just a big gabfest, then? Deep down, this was a big-talking industry making an exhibition of itself…. #ExpoExpo

Chicago: IBTM America – Let’s Go!

So where’s the meeting? IBTM is strictly for those involved in organizing meetings, incentives and events. IBTM America was a three day event that blew (and we mean blew) into Chicago, the Windy City, in June 2015. IBTM America was an exclusive event that hosted 250 premier planners from the domestic and overseas markets, all clamoring to place international and domestic business. Not just anybody gets into this kind of meeting, though; this is an exclusive and private event where exhibitors and premier meeting planners have been carefully selected on criteria of industry relevance, expertise and the kind — and size — of business they have to place, resulting in an “ideal 1 to 1 ratio”. Tailored to the U.S. market, but focused as much on points beyond, this show guarantees the attendance of top-level decision makers from across the U.S. and other key markets. Hey, a little hush please? The meeting only finishes when I smack the lectern with this gavel….. #ibtmamerica

We met these fabulous folks from the Atlantis Dive Resort in the Philippines:

Conventions: Washington DC: ASAE Springtime Expo 2015

It being Springtime an’ all, we heard that “Inspiration was in full bloom” at ASAE, which has ‘planted’ itself as the largest one-day show in the meetings industry. Spending a whole day with these “blooming lovelies” meant heading back to the office with tangible takeaways that could enhance the digging, plowing, seeding and weeding that’s always involved in meeting planning for the year ahead. Networking flowered with new and familiar colleagues, knowledge was propagated, and hundreds of fabulous destinations, products and services were explored around the expo floor. There were thought-provoking education sessions, including the new Eye Opener Sessions and Learning Labs, focused on meeting planners and event producers from whom to learn and share tips, techniques, and trends. The hall featured more than 340 exhibitors. Drop a seed and watch a flower grow…. #SpringtimeExpo2015

VEGAS: International Association of Fairs and Expositions #IAFE

This one is an Expo about Expos, so to speak. IAFE is the International Association of Fairs and Expositions, so the organizers already know what they’re talking about. Over 3,200 fairs are held in North America each year. They provide industrial exhibits, demonstrations and competition aimed at the advancement of livestock, horticulture and agriculture with special emphasis placed on educational activities. This, we heard, is the largest event serving fairs, shows, exhibitions, and expositions. The 390-booth show is the biggest event in the fair industry’s calendar, with a total show attendance of over 4,000. Convention attendees learn from each other and from top professionals during the intensive four days of workshops, special seminars, round table discussions and social events. All the fun of the fair…

Anaheim: AMW12

May 30-31, 2012. AMW12 also went by the name of HSMAI’s Meet West, and it was all about meetings, events, education and technology.  The event attracted planners from all sectors of the meetings industry looking for resources to enhance their meetings and events.  Attendees were typically meeting professionals including corporate, independents, and association planners.  Exhibitors were mostly hotels, inns, resorts, convention centers, airlines, conference centers, transportation companies, trade publications, unique meeting sites, software providers, entertainment companies, event rental companies, audio visual companies and other suppliers who service the meetings industry.  We need to arrange meetings about meetings…

Tampa: TSE 2012

Jan. 25-28, 2012. TSE stands for The Special Event, and the organizers rather grandly trumpeted it as “the dawn of a new beginning”.  Its kind of “an event about events”.  The Special Event is the largest tradeshow and conference in the world for event professionals. Delegates could discover thousands of event products and services on the tradeshow floor, and get education both inside and outside of the classroom environment, choosing among over 100  Conference Sessions and Training Workshops.  Different learning “tracks” included business development, design, event management, food services, tools and resources, sales and marketing, even a special program on managing weddings.  Overall, the show was judged to be pretty… “eventful”.

Phoenix: TSE 2011 (The Special Event 2011)

TSE stands for The Special Event, and the organizers rather grandly trumpeted it as “the dawn of a new beginning”. Its kind of “an event about events”. TSE is like The Big Game which is really the Super Bowl except one has to pay to say it. Super Bowl. The Special Event is the largest tradeshow and conference in the world for event professionals. Delegates could discover thousands of event products and services on the tradeshow floor, and get education both inside and outside of the classroom environment, choosing among over 100 Conference Sessions and Training Workshops.
