IPC, we hear, is “the Association connecting electronics industries”. For more than a half-century, IPC has been guiding the electronic interconnection industry through dramatic changes. A global trade association dedicated to the competitive and financial success of its more than 3,500 member companies, IPC represents all facets of the industry including design, printed board manufacturing, and electronics assembly and test. So how are those industries doing these days? As of December, sales growth was flat in the electronics manufacturing services (EMS) segment of the North American electronics industry, but slight declines were seen in bare printed circuit board (PCB) and semiconductor sales, and in US new orders for electronics products. Semiconductor sales seem to have plateaued after a strong run-up in the second half of 2014. New orders for electronic products tend to lead sales by about one month.   But some trends indicate greater demand than supply, someone figured out, and that fact may be a precursor of strengthening sales growth in the PCB industry in 2015. Oh my, these consumers are just SO DEMANDING…   #IPCAPEXEXPO

San Diego: DistribuTECH

The DistribuTECH Power Transmission Conference was electric…  at least it was electricity distribution that occupied most delegates’ attention.  Discussion strands included metering, grid communications, smart grid operation, big data and analytics, distributed energy resources and renewables, substation integration and automation, water utility technology, geospatial and mobile solutions, customer strategies, and defending the grid. Each year, the editors at POWERGRID International magazine (the official publication of DistribuTECH Conference and Exhibition) announce  the magazine’s Projects of the Year during the Electric Light  and Power / POWERGRID International Awards Dinner.  DistribuTECH is apparently the largest U.S. event that covers the utility industry from end-to-end, with 10,000 attendees and more than 480 exhibitors. The 2015 show in San Diego turned out
to be the largest ever. Powerful stuff….

San Diego: American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences – AAPS

AAPS is the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and it provides a dynamic international forum for the exchange of knowledge among scientists to enhance their contributions to health, offering timely scientific programs, ongoing education, opportunities for networking and professional development. Founded in 1986, AAPS is an individual membership society of approximately 11,000 pharmaceutical scientists who have joined together to serve the public and their own common professional interests. AAPS is not a trade organization but a nonprofit organization that serves as an educational, scientific, and scholarly body.  AAPS members primarily come from a pharmaceutics, biopharmaceutics, or pharmacy field of study. They also represent scientists from complimentary disciplines such as chemistry, biology, engineering, and medicine, involved in the discovery, development, and manufacture of pharmaceutical products and therapies.  And yes, pharmacology IS a science….  #AAPS2014

San Diego: Direct Marketing Association – DMA

Marketing technology takes gigantic leaps forward every year, we heard.  The Direct Marketing Association pitched DMA 2014 as “the global event for data-driven marketers”.  Every customer journey is unique, we were told, and every touch point is an opportunity to leverage valuable data to nurture customer relationships, and deepen customer contact intimacy. Earvin “Magic” Johnson gave a keynoter, among more than 150 sessions over the course of six days, focusing on the modernization of marketing-centric technology and online/offline data management, predictive and prescriptive analytics.   The DMA2014 Exhibit Hall made it easy to discover the latest advances. The NeXtGen Arena and SoMoLo Pavilion were both places to find new and exciting technologies to add to the marketing mix.  Want to get the message across?  Be direct…!  #dma14
