Las Vegas: Expo!Expo!

The International Association of Exhibitions and Events is today the leading association for the global exhibition industry. IAEE represents over 9,000 individuals in over 50 countries who conduct and support exhibitions around the world, and IAEE proclaims that “Exhibitions and Events mean business”. Their show goes by Expo! Expo!, and IAEE’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition brought together organizers and industry suppliers for their mutual benefit through exhibition, education and networking events. The focus of Expo! Expo! was, we heard, to create a learning culture and strategic networking opportunities. To that end, the 2015 Expo! Expo! Connect platform leveraged state-of-art networking and matchmaking technology, to get everyone talking. Just a big gabfest, then? Deep down, this was a big-talking industry making an exhibition of itself…. #ExpoExpo

Conventions: Washington DC: ASAE Springtime Expo 2015

It being Springtime an’ all, we heard that “Inspiration was in full bloom” at ASAE, which has ‘planted’ itself as the largest one-day show in the meetings industry. Spending a whole day with these “blooming lovelies” meant heading back to the office with tangible takeaways that could enhance the digging, plowing, seeding and weeding that’s always involved in meeting planning for the year ahead. Networking flowered with new and familiar colleagues, knowledge was propagated, and hundreds of fabulous destinations, products and services were explored around the expo floor. There were thought-provoking education sessions, including the new Eye Opener Sessions and Learning Labs, focused on meeting planners and event producers from whom to learn and share tips, techniques, and trends. The hall featured more than 340 exhibitors. Drop a seed and watch a flower grow…. #SpringtimeExpo2015

Vegas: ConExpo Day 3: We will not be lost in the crowd!

Even though the data folks say there is a 27% increase in both exhibitors & attendees, it really feels like 30%. My 1st ConExpo was in 2005. The height of the housing boom. then in 2008 when all those “No down payment” loans were starting to come though and the market crashed 6 months later. 2011 was just as the recovery had started, contracts were being scrutinized & while it was on the upswing, the money hadn’t started to trickle down. This year? All the people I’ve spoken to, and by my card count that’s over 1000, are upbeat. Housing is rebounding, the commercial market, while slower, is on the upswing. All sectors are finding new revenue streams. And with the LVCC literally bursting at the seams, people are spending again.  If I haven’t said it already, Thank You AEM (Association of Equipment Manufacturers) for picking Las Vegas once again!

NYC: ChemShow 2013

This show was all about the latest chemical process technology. You know, the kind of equipment they had in the basement lab scenes in “Breaking Bad” on TV. But at this show the focus was on problem-solving face-to-face with the experts, and getting smarter in the complex world of ChemTech. A visit to the Process Control & Automation Center was an eye-opener for products and services geared to increase productivity and reduce costs in process operations. Product areas included Process Control Systems, Wireless Monitoring Devices, Data Collection, Instrumentation and Sensors, Transmitters and Software. Then there was the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) program, which fielded leading industry experts presenting valuable insights and information specifically geared to engineers working in the chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and other processing industries. The chemistry between delegates and speakers was palpable… #chemshow

Orlando: NTSA I/ITSEC Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference

“I/ITSEC? The Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference, to you. It’s billed as the world’s largest modeling, simulation and training conference. I/ITSEC promotes cooperation among the Armed Services, Industry and various Government agencies in pursuit of improved training and education programs, identification of common training issues, and development of multiservice programs. The Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Academia have all joined with the Navy in sharing leadership of the conference. In 1979 the title of the conference was changed to the Interservice/Industry Training Equipment Conference. The Services have steadily evolved toward a total systems philosophy in the acquisition of training equipment and training delivery systems. Simulation? Who did you say was “”simulating”” something…?

Philadelphia: Greenbuild 2013

They came to Philadelphia to learn, network, do business and participate in “one of the greenest and most sustainable conferences in the world”. The Greenbuild Expo was the place to discover the latest in the green building field’s innovative products and services. The Education Lab was a unique classroom experience located inside the Exhibit Hall, each Lab featuring sponsor-developed content that had been submitted to GBCI and approved for CE credit. You can often judge an industry by the exalted company it keeps. Each year at Greenbuild the world’s business, environmental and social leaders take the stage to motivate, inspire and teach the construction industry, we heard. This year the assembled company learned that keynoter Hillary Rodham Clinton really cares about how green you’re building these days. Did I hear her say it was the Green House she was hoping to get back into next year? No, silly, the White House…
