Chicago: IBTM America – Let’s Go!

So where’s the meeting? IBTM is strictly for those involved in organizing meetings, incentives and events. IBTM America was a three day event that blew (and we mean blew) into Chicago, the Windy City, in June 2015. IBTM America was an exclusive event that hosted 250 premier planners from the domestic and overseas markets, all clamoring to place international and domestic business. Not just anybody gets into this kind of meeting, though; this is an exclusive and private event where exhibitors and premier meeting planners have been carefully selected on criteria of industry relevance, expertise and the kind — and size — of business they have to place, resulting in an “ideal 1 to 1 ratio”. Tailored to the U.S. market, but focused as much on points beyond, this show guarantees the attendance of top-level decision makers from across the U.S. and other key markets. Hey, a little hush please? The meeting only finishes when I smack the lectern with this gavel….. #ibtmamerica

Trade Shows Las Vegas: ReCon 2015 #ReCon2015

The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) is all about advancing the shopping center industry and to promoting its role in the commercial distribution of consumer goods and services.  Recon is their Global Retail Real Estate Convention, and a fine platform for explaining why things are going well for the business;  for instance the industry as a whole has been thriving and “only going up”. In 2014 the average value of shopping center construction ($14.5 billion), occupancy rates (92.7%) and rent (+ 6.5%) all soared to record-breaking highs since 2008. Shopping center NOI (that’s Net Operating Income to us acronym ignoramuses)  also experienced a record growth rate (+8.3%) since 2000.  Mall sales productivity per square foot was up from $385 dollars in 2009 to over $475.  Based on U.S. Census Bureau data, the value of shopping center construction, including work done on both new and/or existing structures, reached $14.5 billion in 2014, the highest since 2008. The recession?  It’s just so over…  #ICSC2015 #ReCon2015

Trade Shows: Portland – BrewExpo America 2015

Hey, listen, I’ll buy you a beer in Portland.  BrewExpo America is the premier trade show for Craft Brewers, and it claims to be the only industry event that serves brewpubs, breweries, and wholesalers alike.  With 600 vendors all in one location, BrewExpo is foamy, thirst-quenching kind of a place to shop for products and services for brewery or brewpub. The trade expo is geared to providing a show environment that allows exhibitors and buyers to work on profitable business relationships, and helps brewing and brewery restaurant professionals encounter the latest and best products and services industry vendors have to offer. The conference is quite the social event, with 10,000+ brewing industry professionals enjoying craft brews together.  In fact we challenge you to point a camera there at any time in any direction and fail to get a shot with less than two people with beer glass in hand.  Cheers!  #craftbeer #cheers

Vegas: Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo #AAPEX2013

AAPEX is the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo, and it’s about things like bearings, filters, batteries, clutches, lubricants, shock absorbers, brake pads, alternators… you get the idea. AAPEX offered WDs, retailers, program groups, jobbers, service providers, and others the opportunity to source products from both domestic and international suppliers. Representing a $395 billion global motor vehicle aftermarket, more than 130,000 professionals from around the globe participate in the AAPEX Show. A keynote was dedicated to Building the Workforce of Tomorrow: How to Recruit, Retain and Grow Your Young Talent: companies are having trouble recruiting and retaining younger employees, we heard, yet they are set to represent 75 percent of the entire workforce by 2025. Research has shown that that the average Gen-Y worker leaves in just over two years. It’s therefore imperative that companies keep their younger employees engaged and motivated. Hey kid, where do you think you’re going…?

Orlando: National Community Pharmacists Association #NCPA

“NCPA is the National Community Pharmacists Association. Keynote speakers provided insights on profit boosters in areas such as adherence, compounding, long-term care, and front-end overhaul. Popular sessions included five technology seminars, for instance Joy Baldridge on practical strategies for reducing stress in the pharmacy workplace, and the pitfalls of credit card security breaches and new HIPAA requirements. Influence expert Amy Showalter gave a session on “”The Underdog Edge: What It Is, How to Get It, and Why You Need It for Grassroots Advocacy Success””. It was all about How Ordinary People Change the Minds of the Powerful. Speaking of the powerful, keynote speaker ex-President Bill Clinton told the Second General Session, “”I like this group because you deal with real people, real problems, and you have to be practical.”” No-one tried to change his mind…
