Las Vegas: Diving Equipment & Marketing Association – DEMA

When they say DEMA, they’re talking about the Diving Equipment & Marketing Association. It’s an international organization dedicated to the promotion and growth of the recreational scuba diving and snorkeling industry.  With more than 1,300 members, this global non-profit organization promotes scuba diving through consumer awareness programs and media campaigns like the national Be a Diver campaign; diver retention initiatives such as DiveCaching; and of course this annual trade-only event for businesses in the scuba diving, action watersports and adventure/dive-travel industries.  Why do people join?  Well, there are business and travel savings to be had, health and business insurance deals, disaster assistance, industry analysis, education, advocacy, and that all-important Diver Acquisition & Retention Support, generating new customer leads with the Be A Diver Pool Tour.  Wait, you said industry analysis?  Yeah, divers do it deeper….  #DEMAShow

New York City: ISC Solutions – Security

ISC Security Solutions  is THE security industry trade show, we were told. At ISC delegates had the chance to meet with technical reps from over 200 brands in the security industry, to find out about new and future products, and to stay ahead of the curve and the competition. Encompassing everything from surveillance to facial recognition software, there was an impressive array of products and services to benefit both a security company and its clients.  New product showings spanned biometrics and fingerprinting, CCTV, burglar alarm and remote monitoring, fire alarms and smoke detectors, lockdown equipment, security cards, access control systems,  surveillance, data security, wireless applications….  The SIA Education@ISC East Program brought delegates some all-new content on the most current business trends, technologies and state requirements/codes.  Certificates of attendance were distributed to all conferees after the show, documents for use to self-report their education hours.  In addition to facial recognition screening, of course….  #ISCE14

Anaheim: Automation Fair – Rockwell Automation

The Rockwell Automation Fair is, we heard, about “how The Connected Enterprise can help achieve faster time to market, optimize assets, lower the total cost of ownership, and improve enterprise risk management”.  Clear?  Okay, if I tell you it’s a show that homes in on “how flexible, scalable automation solutions can lower costs and improve overall performance”, better?  And how sustainable production practices can increase your competitiveness and help you better manage energy and materials costs,… you’re getting this, right?  Well, okay, fine, let’s just say it’s a Rockwell thing.  With over 100 exhibits, you could take advantage of automation expertise from Rockwell Automation, providing comprehensive solutions from industry leaders in distribution, systems integration, machine building, and complementary technologies.  There were industry forums, user group meetings, hands-on labs, technical sessions and demonstrations to expand knowledge and use of the latest control, power and information technologies.  Rock(well)’n’Roll!!  #AutoFair

Chicago: American Heart Association

The American Heart Association likes to put “heart-warming” slogans around the place at their show, so we were seeing a lot of “My American Heart” and “Life Is Why” banners as we toured the show floor.  We were also aware of Big Things:  Big Science, Big Technology, and Big Networking, to name but three.  Scientific sessions like the ReSuscitation Symposium were prominent on the agenda, with sessions titled Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing Symposium. Another summit brought together faculty and participants involved in the areas of arrhythmia mechanisms, diagnosis and management, all there to participate in topics devoted to cutting edge research and therapeutic innovation. A diverse range of topics enabled clinicians, basic scientists, biomedical engineers and outcomes experts to participate.   There were show-and-tells on Late-Breaking Clinical Trials including Dual Antiplatelet Therapy (DAPT) and IMPROVE-IT.  Welcoming?  Sure, these guys are all heart….

Orlando: Athletic Business Conference & Expo

The Athletic Business Conference & Expo goes by the catchy moniker of ABC.  There were a total of ten seminar tracks, covering people management, revenue generation, risk management, aging facilities (to help people age, maybe? Just kidding), social media, customer experience, technology, facility planning, that kind of thing.   On display were sports products, fitness equipment, medically-oriented products, programs for older adults, youth sports equipment, fitness certification programs, surfaces, recreation equipment, aquatics equipment, along with the administrative tools geared to getting the most out of all those things.  You would have been rubbing shoulders with recreation, athletics and fitness professionals from around the US and other countries.  ABC goes partners with three other organizations to provide an even broader spectrum of educational opportunities.  So there were seminars from ABC partners the International Council on Active Aging, the Medical Fitness Association and the National Alliance for Youth Sports. Active aging, hey?  So what about those people who prefer passive aging…?  #ABCOrlando
