Chicago: Clinical Lab Expo – AACC – American Association for Clinical Chemistry

Basically, clinical chemistry is medical testing that uses chemical processes, with those results applied to evaluating patient health.  Clinical chemistry is what goes on when you have your blood tests done at the doctor’s office, and it also involves medical testing performed on other human fluids.  AACC represents not only the medical professionals who perform these analyses, but also the innovators who design, manufacture, and sell the devices utilized in clinical laboratory science.  AACC is the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, and this was their Clinical Lab Expo.  The Association is an international scientific and medical society of clinical laboratory professionals, physicians, research scientists and others involved with the clinical chemistry and related disciplines.  One of AACC’s strategic initiatives is to develop programs that support the global laboratory community.  Now, which of your human fluids are we going to be working on today…?

Las Vegas: Las Vegas Market

The home furnishings industry has changed more in the last 10 years than it has in the last 100, we heard.  LVM is the Las Vegas Market, a biannual furniture trade show.  In an industry that claims it’s constantly changing, Las Vegas Market is a business platform that delivers a confluence of new opportunities. Featuring an impressive breadth and depth of product offerings, the show’s attendees got easy access to nearly 1,500 world-class manufacturers and fresh new resources. Las Vegas Market debut’d latest industry trends all within one state-of-the-art event, and offered products across all categories, including furniture, accessories, gift, lighting, home textile, rugs, floor coverings and more.  World Market Center mobilized its connections to provide participants with memorable moments, including elegant parties and meet-and-greets with design icons and industry superstars.  Fortunately, this being a furniture show, they all had something stylish and comfortable to sit on….

 

Boston: Campus Technology CT Education Technology Conference

Campus Technology 2014 aimed to explore compelling and revolutionary technologies for higher education — cloud computing, mobile integration, collaborative environments and so on.  The delegate list made up a community comprised of hundreds of highly motivated technology professionals working at large universities, small colleges and education institutions in-between, from across the country and around the world, but with a concentration of attendees from the eastern United States.  Campus Technology conferences were designed to offer attendees the opportunity to learn about the technologies that drive student success and educational advancement both in and out of the classroom, and help place campuses on the leading edge of 21st century education, enterprise and infrastructure technology.  The common goal is professional growth, with an emphasis on sharing solutions to specific technology challenges.  Oh, hey, there’s an app for that….  #CampusTech

Los Angeles: Global Business Travel Association – GBTA

GBTA is the Global Business Travel Association, and their Los Angeles beano claims to be the largest gathering of business travel buyers in the world, enabling travel companies to put their brand in front of close to 1,500 business travel buyers.  This included a chance to reach the world’s largest gathering of Fortune 100 business travel buyers, we heard.  The average travel spend among buyers hovered around the $84 million mark, so there was real money involved.  There were education sessions designed to update convention attendees on a variety of topics including management skill development, sourcing and procurement, the global marketplace, and business strategy.  One well-attended session was titled A Numbers Game: Using Strategic KPIs to Demonstrate Value of Travel Management to Senior Management.  Uh… KPIs?  That’s Key Performance Indicators to you and me, pilgrim….  #GBTA2014

Orlando: Southeast Building Conference – SEBC

SEBC stands for Southeast Building Conference, and it’s where the Southeast’s Builders, Remodelers, Contractors, Developers and other building industry professionals come to interact.  SEBC offers over 40 seminars that meet Florida Building Code Standards, and business building tracks and programs that cover ideas on business management, universal design and remodeling as well as sales and marketing.  The SEBC show attracted a wide range of building and housing professionals from Florida and the South, and over 300 companies exhibited in 2014.  The audience was primarily builders of single-family homes, apartments, commercial structures… as well as developers, remodelers, architects, engineers, and sales and marketing professionals.  There were Specialty Sections for Green Zone, Hurricane Alley and EZone (Energy Efficiency), plus a special section dedicated to SEBC’s co-location trade show partner, the Florida Masonry Foundation.  58% of the builders present were the decision maker or purchasing agent. Build on that!

Las Vegas: CaterSource & Event Solutions

CaterSource brags that its Las Vegas meet hosted over 3,000 visitors (and one Iron Chef) from fifty-two countries, and generated 18,000 tweets and nearly 13.000 retweets.  Cater source education contributes to the mandatory courses in sanitation, nutrition and business management.   Delegates could take 30 minutes to meet with the Cater source Consulting Unit and get free practical advice about their business;  all they had to do was bring their materials and sit one-on-one with an experienced consultant who was there to help boost operations, sales and marketing techniques.  Not enough?  Members of the CaterSource and Event Solutions Advisory Board were available in the Attendee Lounge throughout the Conference, for impromptu pronouncements. The onsite Cater source Store was stocked full of great new and classic resource and souvenir items. From t-shirts and swag to books and DVDs, browsers could find dozens of items relevant to the catering and event industries.  Clockwork talking hamburger, anyone?  #AOFC2014

Las Vegas: SuperZoo

SuperZoo is the show that pet retailers and professional groomers love for being the pet industry’s leading place for business, an ideas-filled combination of fun and function.  It’s all about giving pet pros what they need, we heard.  From top suppliers to unique resources to fly-off-the shelf products, the National Show for Pet Retailers (as SuperZoo calls itself when it’s being more formal)  brought it all together.  According to their press recap, a record breaking 18% increase in attendees and 641 new products showcased from 910 exhibiting companies.   A major draw was Idea Store, a retail store replica that modeled best practices in merchandising, store layout and point of sale technology.  You like to groom?  The Groomer SuperShow at SuperZoo gave visitors the opportunity to showcase their best work, with GroomTeam-sanctioned competitions in an assortment of categories, plus the Rescue Rodeo, Creative Style, First-Time Competitor and Groomer’s Super Jackpot contest.  The judges were looking for talented groomers of all experience levels to inspire with style, creativity and ingenious techniques.  Now, pink or baby-blue ribbons for this poodle’s pompoms…?  #SZ14
