Washington DC: ASA 2012

Mar. 28-31, 2012. The ASA is the American Society on Aging, and these people are definitely sitting on a growth market. ASA is committed to being the premier resource for education, training and information on aging-related issues. This is the largest gathering of a diverse, multidisciplinary community of professionals from the fields of aging, healthcare and education, along with business leaders from across the United States. Partly at issue were topics related to The Aging Business, which covered such areas as Boomer Lifestyles and Consumers, Business Development, Finances in Later Life, Age Discrimination and Other Legal Issues, Marketing and Communications, Older Adults as Consumers, Products and Services, Retirement Planning and Transitions.  Kind of makes you feel old, doesn’t it?

Long Beach: USITT

Mar. 28-31, 2012. It means United States Institute for Theater Technology.  Most audiences at a theatrical performance don’t stop to consider everything it takes to get put this thing on the stage. The performance is just the tip of the entertainment iceberg. Creativity and hard work go into scenes, lighting, costumes, sound, make-up, stage managing, and the performance area itself. It is the design, production, and technology professionals in the performing arts and entertainment industry that the United States Institute for Theatre Technology was set up to serve.  USITT provides benefits, learning opportunities, and networking for over 3,700 members worldwide. For those who design the spaces and those who create and manage the productions, the Annual Conference & Stage Expo were where the performing arts community gathers.  Break a leg!

Los Angeles: WESTEC

Mar. 27-29, 2012. WESTEC, reportedly the California region’s definitive manufacturing event, returned to the Los Angeles Convention Center redefined, and with renewed commitment to area industry. WESTEC is a manufacturer’s think-tank where creativity, vision, and strategy join forces to spotlight the promise of ground-breaking products for vital global markets.  The focus is on people using technology to innovate. Delegates could chase down the very latest technologies – from cutting tools to multi-tasking machine tools, all from top international equipment manufacturers. New features included the Emerging Technology Showcase, highlighting applications for micro, nano, and additive manufacturing; and Milestones in Manufacturing, a celebration of key technology developments.  As the old Bread song had it, “I’d like to “make” it with you….”

San Francisco: CET World

Mar. 28-29, 2012. CET, also known as KioskCom, stands for Customer Engagement Technology World.  From digital signage to mobile marketing, from self-service kiosks to social media… CETW is focused on leveraging the integration of emerging media across multiple channels to activate customer engagement.  People are constantly consuming information through a variety of channels, we learned, often simultaneously and whether they realize it or not. They are engaging with each other and their favored brands in new ways every on a daily basis.  Delegates were there to experience the newest technologies and innovative thinking behind some of today’s multi-channel campaigns and experiences.

TeamVegas Celebrates National CashMob Day

We have about 4 team events every year in addition to the holiday parties.  This quarter we participated as a group in the National Cash Mob Day. If you don’t know what a CashMob is – basically a group of people gets together to help out a locally owned business.  This does not include franchises but true mom-pop stores.  You can read up about it here  Cash mob is a part of the #ShopLocal movement that keeps money in the community rather than sending it to some corporate headquarters somewhere.

We teamed up with Danielle who is the Las Vegas Coordinator – for cash mobs. Our team of 8 was the largest group but there were about 25 participants.  The Gypsy Den was the chosen target.  Our own Loopy sent out a camera crew from ABC affiliate channel 13 to cover the event.

Afterward we met at Mundo – also in the DTLV area to continue with our #EatLocal #DrinkLocal for a trifecta day.


New York City: Architectural Digest Home Show

Mar. 22-25, 2012. The Architectural  Digest Home Design Show was where the design in-crowd went to explore the latest products for the home, shop from new and established brands, and get inspired by new ideas and insight from top talents in the design industry.  There were exhibits from nearly 400 premium brands, design seminars presented by The New York Times, cooking demonstrations and tastings, complimentary one-on-one design consultations, and show tours with New York Design Center designers.  The MADE section provided individual artists and designers with an opportunity to promote themselves at the show. Although artisan work has always been a part of the AD show’s offerings, MADE highlighted this work with a voice of its own rather than being mixed among corporate production brands.  So what do you have designs on…?
