ISC West 2010 Video Surveillance Demo
This has in the past been one of the fastest-growing shows anywhere, implying security is a growing public and business concern. Hot topics: biometric i/d products, video surveillance, remote monitoring. A lot of hard-wired products are now looking at wireless technology instead. Better security!

Welcome to Ed Expo!

The show is popularly known as Ed (for Education) Expo. It’s the ‘premier back-to-school buying event’. Everything from teacher resources, kids’ computers and maps/globes to clay and dough. Leadership orientation to “learn what is expected of volunteer leaders”. Much conjecture on an upcoming “Obama Education Revamp”. Fun stuff included charity golf day, evening with the stars (well, stars of NSSEA!), and a Casino Party with a live auction, dancing, cash bar.

Vegas: Aviation Expo

No, not up there!  Down here!  The show is about the “grounded” part of aviation, i.e. aviation services, ground support and aircraft maintenance.  Quite a ‘classroom atmosphere’, with lots of seminars, hands-on equipment demos.  Pros attending could be from any one of 20 different disciplines and job descriptions, from FBOs (fixed-base operators, apparently) to air taxi and charter firms.  Less about “the need for speed” than baggage-handling belts. Grounded, man!

Vegas: CTIA Wireless

The industry’s full handle is the wireless segment of the telecom industry: wireless and converged communications, mobile internet, computing and mobile data — billed as a $ trillion market.  This is its leading event, with more than 1,000 exhibitors.  While other industries stagger though the downturn, this one looks and sounds pretty chipper, with 3rd generation tech investments looking like paying off at last, and new apps carrying all before them.  A lot of press interest, which is always a good sign.

Edmonton:Buildex Conference and Tradeshow

The full scope of the event is real estate, property management, interior design, architecture, construction and renovation… so pretty broad-ranging, and a scattered mix of delegates (2000+ tramping past150 stands).  A detailed focus on contract law (?) and builders’ liens — heavy!!  The inevitable Green product showcase — did they really need a “Color Trends 2010” seminar when everything is ‘green’, already?
